American Journal of Public Health profile of Shelley Davis

The American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) recently published an article profiling the life of our former Deputy Director Shelley Davis who passed away last December of breast cancer.  Shelley was a formidable advocate for farmworkers' rights, fighting in many venues from the courts to Capitol Hill to improve health and safety protections for agricultural workers and their families. "Her attitude toward her profession and her work was summed up in her observation: “We have the rare privilege of living out our most deeply held principles, every single day. This is a privilege I would not give up for higher pay or more status—or frankly, for anything.”

For those of us lucky enough to have known Shelley while she was with us, the below article is a fitting tribute to her life's work.  For those who missed out on that privilege, this is a good overview of the depth of her commitment to fighting for social justice.  You can also watch a video tribute to Shelley here.

Read the article on their website (normally requires a subscription but the AJPH has generously granted us this special open-access link for our readers) or you can download a pdf version below.  This article is used with permission by the AJPH.
