Happy holidays from Farmworker Justice. We have big plans for 2010. We thank you for your support of our work. The best is yet to come. Together we can achieve a lot. Here are some of our plans:
- win pending lawsuits for farmworkers whose employers underpaid them in systematic ways and send a strong message to other employers about their vulnerability to enforcement lawsuits
- resolve our lawsuits against the federal government for illegal policies under the Bush Administration that slashed wages under the H-2A guestworker program and allowed use of toxic pesticides that should be banned
- help farmworkers win immigration reform to enable undocumented farmworkers to reduce their marginalization and empower them win improvements in the job terms and in government policies
- mobilize farmworker communities to reduce HIV/AIDS, TB and other preventable illnesses
- strengthen health and safety laws and regulations to reduce injuries and illnesses in agriculture, one of the top three most dangerous occupations in the U.S.
- expand the federal government's support for research on pesticides' long-term effects on the health of farmworkers and their children
- issue a major report on labor law enforcement failures and recommendations to the incoming Solicitor of Labor and Wage and Hour Administrator how to win systemic improvements
- support farm labor union organizing
- co-coordinate the national farmworker law conference
- and a lot more.
Your financial support makes possible our litigation, advocacy, capacity-building, techical support, communications, coalition-building and other activities. The people we serve are the poorest of trhe working poor and cannot afford to pay for the valuable services we provide. They put food on our tables and deserve the best assistance possible to help them improve their living and working conditions. Thanks!
