The risk of inaction on global warming is rapid increase in melting of snowpack in California mountains, resulting in eventual decrease in water supply needed for agriculture:  "you're looking at a scenario where there's no more agriculture in California. When you lose 70 percent of your water in the mountains, I don't see how agriculture can continue." Secretary of Energy,  Steven Chu, in a speech in California last week, quoted in the Los Angeles Times, http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/greenspace/2009/02/chu-economic-di.html.
