Autopsy, lawsuit expected today in farmworker's death

A lawsuit is expected to be filed today on behalf of a young California farmworker who died last month after working long hours in triple digit temperatures. Maria Isabel was contracted by Merced Labor Contractors --which has now been shut down by the state due to safety violations-- to work in a Central Valley vineyard. The autopsy report is also expected to be released today.
An attorney for the labor contractor says the public outrage is misdirected: demanding safe working conditions for farmworkers will only hurt "the people who won't be able to work tomorrow" (presumably because this labor contractor has been shut down). I think the people who are "hurt most" are people like Maria Isabel, who died unnecessarily, and her family and friends, to whom we extend our condolences. The enforcement action hopefully will prevent further tragedies. Full article on Recordnet.com.
