President Obama announced a meeting to be held with members of Congress on June 8 to discuss moving forward on reforming our broken immigration system. Sen. Charles Schumer of New York announced plans to draft comprehensive immigration reform. He is Chair of the Immigration, Refugees and Border Security Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D.-Ill.), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Immigration Task Force, has been traveling the country meeting with organizations, and visited Salinas, California, known for its lettuce crop and other agricultural products. While no vote will be taken in the next few weeks, the foundation is beling laid for passing comprehensive immigration reform in this Congress. AgJOBS is a vital part of that effort. Rep. Guitierrez and Sen. Schumer are cosponsors of the AgJOBS bill (H.R. 2414 and S. 1038).| < Prev | Next > |
